It’s almost official now: on September 23, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors agreed to advertise an October 29 public hearing on an ordinance formally vacating public rights of way along McElroy Road and the section of Old Mars Road located within the Cranberry Springs development. Since construction of Cranberry Springs began several years ago, neither road segment has been available for traffic. Access from Rt. 228 to Cranberry Springs and its UPMC-Penguins Lemieux Sports Complex is currently available through the intersection of 228 with Cranberry Springs Drive at Cranberry Crossroads. A future project, providing direct access from I-79 through a crossing under Rt. 228 will connect Cranberry Springs to Cranberry Woods without requiring traffic to approach the development from 228.
