Now it’s official: on October 29, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors formally agreed to vacate public rights of way along McElroy Road and the section of Mars Road located within the Cranberry Springs development owned by developer Gary Sipple. Since construction of Cranberry Springs began several years ago, neither road segment has been available for traffic. Access from Rt. 228 to Cranberry Springs and its UPMC-Penguins Lemieux Sports Complex is currently available through the intersection of 228 with Cranberry Springs Drive at Cranberry Crossroads. A future project, providing direct access from I-79 through a crossing under Rt. 228 will connect Cranberry Springs to Cranberry Woods without requiring traffic to approach from 228.
